Unusual Patient Case Presented in Poster at American Heart Association Scientific Sessions
Brittany Tran, MD, a third-year Internal Medicine resident, presented the poster, “A Case of Spike-on-T Phenomenon and Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia,” at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions in Chicago this past November. The poster chronicled a case where a patient had an unexpected arrhythmia and through the diligence of Dr. Tran and Harun Thimmiah, MD, a Cardiovascular Medicine fellow, with oversight from Lawrence Rosenthal, MD, PhD, professor of medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, the team was able to piece through the patient’s arrhythmia and come to an understanding of its origin. The arrhythmia (ventricular fibrillation) occurred due to a very rare sequence of precisely timed events and the team was excited to share their findings with the global cardiac community at the conference.
“I congratulate Drs. Tran and Thimmiah for their perseverance in obtaining the pieces of this puzzle and putting them in the correct order,” said Dr. Rosenthal.
