Division of Hematology/Oncology Launches APP Initiative to Enhance Communication with Hospital Medicine 

To meet the need for enhanced communication within the Division of Hematology/Oncology, physicians and staff have collaborated to create a new role in partnership with the Division of Hospital Medicine to support patient care, documentation, training, and more.

The newly established advanced practice provider (APP) role on the Hematology/Oncology team will work closely with the consult attending and fellow, assisting in documenting low-acuity cases, follow-up care, and evaluating new consults. Additionally, the APP will be trained to perform and assist with bone marrow biopsies and aspirations. They will also play a key role in facilitating communication for follow-ups with primary care teams, ensuring better coordination of care as patients transition from inpatient to outpatient settings. The current APP members of the Hematology/Oncology team are Danielle Martin, PA, and Gianna DiPinto, NP. 

Gregory Leslie, MD, interim chief and assistant professor of medicine, Kim Eisenstock, MD, vice chair for clinical affairs and assistant professor of medicine, both of the Division of Hospital Medicine, as well as Sakiko Suzuki, MD, assistant professor of medicine, Tasneem Ali, MD, assistant professor of medicine, David Cachia, MD, interim chief and associate professor of medicine, Theodora Guest-Civitenga, senior administrator, and Tzafra Tessier, APP, all of the Division of Hematology/Oncology, have contributed to this important initiative.
