Additional Med/Peds Faculty

Margret Chang, MD
Margaret completed her medical degree at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She then went on to pursue a residency in Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Brown. She has extensive experience caring for underserved patients, having served as a National Health Service Corps Scholar following her residency. Margret is presently an attending physician at Tri River Family Health Center, where she practices as a primary care physician and serves as the Medical Director of the clinic’s Outpatient Based Addiction Treatment program. She is also part of the teaching faculty at UMass Chan Medical School, where some of her other academic interests are in examining the effect of cultural and linguistic factors on health. She presently resides in Smithfield, Rhode Island with her husband and 2 children.

Nicolina Cordaro, MD 
Nicky is in practice at Tri-River Health Center, a community-based health center affiliated with the UMass Chan Medical School. She completed her residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital Med/Peds Residency program in 1995. She is a graduate of Colgate and Albany Medical College.

Christopher Driscoll, MD
Chris studied applied mathematics at the University of Rochester, before attending medical school at the University at Buffalo. He completed his Med/Peds Residency at Umass, thoroughly enjoying his time, so much so, that he jumped at the opportunity to join as faculty, after completing a chief year in pediatrics. Chris spends most of his time in primary care, but you will also find him rounding in the newborn nursery as well as attending on the hospital medicine service. Outside of medicine, you can find Chris on the golf course, on the hiking trials, or at the local ice rink playing hockey.


Nura Elhaj, MD
Born and raised in Switzerland, Nura moved to Ireland to attend medical school at Trinity College Dublin. She completed her Med/Peds residency at Baystate Medical Center in 2018 and relocated to California to pursue a fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland. During her fellowship, she spent two years at the Kroetz Laboratory at the UCSF Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutics investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. Her training has empowered her to explore disease pathophysiology from various perspectives to improve patient care and clinical outcomes. Nura has recently joined the pediatric hematology/oncology faculty at UMass. She is particularly interested in applying knowledge of treatment exposures to address present and future therapy-related toxicities and comorbidities in childhood cancer survivors.

Bryon Gentile, MD
Bryon earned his undergraduate degree from Providence College, where he studied the molecular babis of osteosarcoma and Paget's Disease.  Following graduation, he attended medical school at Penn State before completing his Med/Peds residency at UMass Chan in 2012.  Bryon joined the Cardiology faculty at UMass Chan after completing an adult Cardiology fellowship here in 2015.

Laura Gibson, MD
Laura returned to UMass Memorial Medical Center for a fellowship in Infectious Diseases after completing her Med/Peds residency at Baystate Medical Center. She is a graduate of Yale University and the UMass Chan Medical School. She remained at UMass Chan after finishing her fellowship in 2001 to pursue research on immune responses to human cytomegalovirus. Laura served as the Med/Ped’s first division chief for ten years. She also serves on the general and transplant Infectious Diseases services in both the Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics.

Tatiana Hamawi, MD
Born in Boston and raised in central Massachusetts, Tatiana attended Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed her Med/Peds residency at Albany Medical Center in 1998. She is a  Board Certified Internist and Board Certified Pediatrician and runs a solo private Med/Peds primary care practice in downtown Worcester where patient-centered care and seeing your own doctor at each visit is the norm. She also provides travel consultations and Botox Cosmetic services.

Timothy Hogan, MD
Dr Hogan grew up in Western Massachusetts and went to WPI for undergrad.  After this he joined the Peace Corps and served for 2 years in Tanzania where he taught math and did HIV education at an all boys school. He was also involved in the production of an HIV focused radio soap opera and well construction in 4 villages.  He then worked at the Transplantation Biology Research Center at MGH for 2 years before attending Tufts for medical school.  He did his Med/Peds residency at Vidant Medical Center where he was a chief resident in 2014.  After graduation he worked for a few years in North Carolina as an outpatient physician and covering a local nursery before returning to Worcester.  He is currently practicing at the West Boylston Family Practice.

Jeff Lee, MD 
Jeff was recruited to UMass Chan because of an active desire to teach residents. Having grown up in suburban Boston, he then attended Brown University and the University of Rochester School of Medicine, where he stayed on to complete his Med/Peds residency. Jeff practices at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Community Medical Group site in Spencer. He is also the current faculty sponsor of the UMass Chan Med/Peds Medical Student Interest Group.

Bonnie L Mathews, MD practices Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Specialty Services in Worcester

Bonnie Mathews, MD
Bonnie is a graduate of Birmingham-Southern College, and the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. She completed residency at Baystate Medical Center, where she also served as the Med/Peds Chief Resident during her fourth year. Bonnie then completed a pediatric emergency medicine fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital. She has been an attending in the division of pediatric emergency medicine at UMass since 2008. She is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and serves as the program director for the UMass Chan Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship program.

Brigid McKenna Carlson, MD
Brigid is a graduate of Georgetown University, and the Umsas Chan Medical School. She completed her Med/Peds residency at UMass Chan in 2010, and then completed an adult cardiology fellowship at UMass Chan as well. She joined the UMass Chan Department of Cardiology as an attending in 2013.

Sakiko Suzuki, MD
Sakiko studied biomedical engineering at Michigan Technological University before going on to earn her medical degree at Wayne State University. She then moved to the East Coast to complete her Med/Peds residency at Baystate Medical Center where she learned how to take care of young and old patients alike. She came to UMass for hematology/oncology fellowship and stayed on as faculty upon completion of her training. After a short stint in translational research lab studying acute megakaryocytic leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome, she now pursues her passion of medical education in her role as the program director for adult hematology/oncology fellowship.

William A. White, MD
William earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, Minnesota). He completed an internal medicine and pediatrics dual residency program at Maine Medical Center (Portland, Maine). Currently, Dr. White specializes in hospital medicine at UMass Memorial Medical Center – Memorial and University campuses (Worcester, Massachusetts). His clinical interests include adult and pediatric hospital medicine, medical toxicology across the lifespan, clinical reasoning, and medical education. Bill grew up in Hawaii but medical training took him far to the north and east. In his spare time Bill loves to ski and hike the White Mountains and Mahoosucs, crush gravel bike trails around Massachusetts, cook for friends, and learn languages. Bill is always looking for outdoors and restaurant recommendations across Massachusetts and Northern New England.
