Why consider the Clinical Informatics (CI) Fellowship at UMass Chan Medical School?

  • Receiving advanced training in clinical informatics will enhance your ability to serve in a variety of leadership roles in medicine, by training in areas including: 
    • Quality improvement  
    • Patient safety  
    • Population health  
    • Medical management  
    • Clinical research  
  • The CI Fellowship will place an emphasis on informatics as a tool to increase operational efficiency, improve clinical outcomes, enhance patient safety, improve patient/provider/staff experience and facilitate clinical research.  

  • After 2025, all physicians will be required to complete a two-year fellowship in CI to be eligible for board certification (through the American Board of Preventive Medicine [ABPM]).  

  • Board certification in CI is an important credential for career advancement as a medical informatician. A 2021 survey of Chief Medical Information Officers (CMIOs) showed that more than71 percent are Board Certified; a 40 percent increase from 2014.
