The objective of the Nursing Preceptor Academy is to develop and support preceptors and clinical faculty to strengthen and grow the nursing workforce at all levels across care settings.

Through a variety of activities, participants will learn to develop and implement strategies to improve the training, support, employment, and retention of nurses.

These include:

Teaching of Tomorrow: For a small group of nurse educators and preceptors selected by our partners, a two-weekend conference focused on building and refining foundational skills for effective clinical teaching equips them with the knowledge and skills to be trainers back at their local institutions.

Preceptor Skills Webinars: Live and recorded Preceptor Skills Webinars to enhance your knowledge and skills to support nurse learners and new hires. A periodic newsletter shares the webinar schedule, resources and tips. These are free, provide CE credit, and are available to any interested nurse. These webinars are identified by the nursing preceptor competencies they address.

Wellness Skills Webinars: Preceptor and trainee wellness are important!  Periodic live and recorded sessions are offered that share strategies to address and reduce burnout.

Teaching Toolkit: The toolkit provides resources designed to support your teaching in clinical settings.

The New England Nursing Academy is administered by the UMass Chan Medical School/Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing (GSN) in Worcester, MA in collaboration with Area Health Education Center (AHEC) partners across the region. AHECs are another HRSA funded grant program.

We’re funded by the Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention - Clinical Faculty and Preceptor Academies program grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). We are one of ten academies funded across the U.S. in the 2022 award cycle.
