There are many treatment options available for menopausal women. Understanding the appropriate treatments available is important when treating patients as they may vary from patient to patient. In the first section of our Pharmacology Update in Women’s Health Online Course series, registered nurses and nurse practitioners will learn the required skills needed to properly care for menopausal women.
In this course, nurses will learn how to Identify appropriate non-hormonal and hormonal treatment options for menopausal symptoms in addition to providing the various doses & routes available for treatment of menopausal symptoms. Other information covered includes the indications & current guidelines for prescribing menopausal hormone therapy (MHT), identifying women with contraindications to using MHT, and providing counseling & informational resources during decision making with women.

Meet the Instructor
Rosemary Theroux
Rosemary Theroux, PhD, WHNP-BC, is a certified women’s health nurse practitioner and has practiced in a variety of clinical settings (private practice, clinic) for over 25 years. She is an associate professor in the Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing at UMass Chan Medical School, where she teaches a women’s health course. She has conducted and published research in the area of women’s self-care decision-making, women’s health practices in Africa, and teaching students through the use of standardized patients. She is a reviewer for several nursing journals. Dr. Theroux has a special interest in Global women’s health. Along with other members of a non-profit group, she has developed a primary care setting with women’s health services in Ghana, Africa.
