Thank you for your interest in our Introduction to Perioperative Principles program
This course is 15 weeks in length. Each student will be provided access to the AORN peri-op 101 core curriculum and will be eligible to take the exam at the end of the course. These modules are supplemented by a robust teaching plan/learning tools developed by our instructor, Dr. Thereza Ayad. There are weekly online assignments and the opportunity to come to our Worcester Campus for simulation days. These 3 days are scheduled on Saturdays and take place in the Interprofessional Center for Experiential Learning (iCELS) located in the Albert Sherman Building.
During these sessions, students have full access to our simulation Carlin OR Suite for realistic hands-on experience with state of the art equipment and instrumentation.
Students outside of our geographical area may opt for a fully online experience.

Students receive 41.7 Contact hours upon successful completion of this course.
Access to the AORN Peri-op 101 modules, supplies and simulation equipment are included.
Students are required to purchase a copy of Alexander’s Care of the Surgical Patient textbook.

This simulation room equipped with OR instruments and supplies are
utilized for the RNFA programs.
Meet the Instructor
Thereza Ayad, DNP, RN, CNOR
Thereza has been in the operating room setting since 2001 and held various positions as a Staff Nurse, Charge Nurse, Clinical Nurse Educator, and Nurse Manager all in the perioperative setting. Thereza has a BA in Anthropology, BSN in Nursing, MSN in nursing education and recently graduated with her DNP.
