The Master of Science program is designed for practicing nurses in various positions who want to advance their knowledge and skills for greater influence in health care decisions and career mobility. The Master of Science program emphasizes disciplinary understanding, knowledge, and practice through relationship building and the inclusion of stakeholders across settings in creating a shared vision of health within communities, health care institutions and societal systems.
Learners will develop experience and skills to navigate the complexities of the health care system within an interprofessional clinical and non-clinical environment to address gaps and health care inequities.
Our MS program offers two tracks:
- Hybrid: Includes in-person and remote classes with independent study; One evening in-person class per week
- Online: Includes remote classes with independent study; Up to two evening online classes per week. Two in-person weekend intensives will be required

The Organization of Nurse Leaders (ONL) and the UMass Chan Medical School Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing share a commitment to developing nurse leaders and connecting nurse leaders with community to support collaboration and growth. We are pleased to announce a Fall 2024 Pilot Program that will integrate into the coursework of UMass graduate nursing students some of ONL’s most in-demand professional learning programs for nurse leaders. These sessions will provide exposure to nationally recognized thought leaders in nursing leadership and connect students with fellow nurse leader participants at all levels from around New England. To further support leadership socialization and development, students will have full access to the benefits of ONL Membership through this collaboration. |

Master of Science Admission Requirements
Candidates for admission to the Master of Science, Nursing and Interprofessional Leadership Program must address the following minimum criteria:
GPA Requirement - GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred for all degrees
Education - Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Unrestricted licensure as a registered nurse
Prerequisites Required - Statistics with a B- or higher preferred
Personal Statement - Explain your personal and professional reason you want to pursue this nursing specialty and your 5-year career plan after graduating from the program (500 to 1,000 words)
