POCUS (Point of Care Ultrasound)
The WFMR Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) curriculum is a longitudinal 3-year experience that combines dedicated didactics with hands-on learning opportunities in a variety of clinical settings. It is intended to provide all residents with the basic framework to incorporate pocus into their future clinical practice. 
Highlights:
- Handheld ultrasound devices at all residency clinics - all 3 resident clinics and the FM inpatient service all have Philips Lumify handheld devices for resident use
- Core curriculum - Didactic workshops during protected learning time, longitudinally spaced over 3 years of curriculum, based on most recent AAFP POCUS curriculum guidelines
- Inpatient rounds - Monthly bedside POCUS rounds for hands-on application of POCUS in patients with interesting clinical findings
- Elective rotations - Structured POCUS elective rotations that include independent learning and additional bedside application of POCUS across a variety of clinical settings
- Independent learning with SonoSim - Availability of independent learning modules and POCUS simulation devices
- Opportunity for senior residents to present cases at annual Resident Image Review session
- Educational Scan policy - Department approved policy allowing patients to opt in or out of participation in educational ultrasound exams
Other Opportunities:
- Departmental POCUS workgroup open to residents interested in supporting expansion of POCUS at UMass
- Monthly virtual Lunch and Learn sessions available to both faculty and residents
