Meet Our Fellowship Director
Dr. Philip Bolduc earned a B.S. in electrical engineering in 1991 from Brown University and worked for five years in photovoltaic systems engineering, research and design. He left his engineering career in 1996 to attend medical school at the University of Massachusetts, graduating in 2000. He completed a residency in Family Medicine in Lawrence, MA in 2003, and a fellowship in HIV Medicine at the University of California San Diego in 2004. Dr. Bolduc returned to the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center (GLFHC) as faculty in 2005 to practice full-spectrum family medicine, train medical students and residents, and become the HIV Program Director. In 2007 he started the GLFHC Hepatitis C program, treating both mono-infected and HIV/HCV co-infected patients.
Dr. Bolduc then moved to the Family Health Center of Worcester in 2011 to continue in the same lines of work of integrated HIV and primary care and resident education. He transitioned the HIV Program at FHCW from an Infectious Disease specialist care model to a PCP-centered model, and in 2013 started a Viral Hepatitis Clinic. In 2014 he began a Perinatal HIV program as well as this fellowship. In both Lawrence and Worcester, Dr. Bolduc has had a special interest in training and supporting family physicians in the comprehensive care of HIV and viral hepatitis patients in the community health center setting. He has been an accredited HIV Specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVM) since 2003, and Principal Investigator of the New England AIDS Education and Training Center since 2017. Dr. Bolduc was co-chair of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine HIV and Viral Hepatitis Collaborative from 2015-2018. In 2020 he became a co-editor of AAHIVM’s textbook Fundamentals of HIV Medicine and in 2021 began a 3-year term on the Board of Directors of the IDSA HIV Medicine Association.
