Co-chaired by Lynn Hernandez and Che Anderson, the service subcommittee provides opportunities for UMass Chan to engage with our surrounding community and to collaborate with community partners in meaningful and mutually beneficial ways. The service subcommittee goals for 2024 were:
Establishing a UMass Chan Annual Day of Service
• Distinguishing it from other service/volunteering opportunities
• Community building opportunities
Participation and support for community and volunteering events
Black Maternal Health Week’s Community Baby Shower
Donation drives
Volunteering time
Diversity for HIM Youth Summit
• Distinguishing it from Black Men in White Coats
• Focused on 4th to 8th graders
• Day in the Life of a nurse, a scientist, a physician, an administrator
• Lab tours, workshops for kids and parents
The service committee also worked to review the MLK semester of service student proposals and selected the winner.
