Dermatologic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology

The Department of Dermatology section of Dermatologic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology offers comprehensive care for cutaneous malignancies including basal and squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, adnexal neoplasms, and other rare cutaneous tumors. We perform the full array of surgical procedures including excision of benign and malignant tumors, Mohs micrographic surgery, scar revision and dermabrasion. The high-volume clinic is comprised of our seven surgical attendings, a Mohs surgery fellow, residents, and nursing/medical assistant staff. We have strong relationships with our colleagues radiation oncology, surgical oncology, plastic surgery, pathology, medical oncology, and otolaryngology allowing us to provide high-quality, multidiscplinary care. Our surgeons are leaders in research with interests ranging from epidemiology to clinical outcomes to patient experience/quality of life, and we meet weekly to discuss the current literature and complex cases.

First-year dermatology residents have a weekly half-day excision clinic for the entire year with same surgical faculty member where they master basic techniques and become comfortable with management of benign and malignant surgical problems. Second-year residents operate one half day per week for six months with the same Mohs faculty member where they are involved with the care of more complex surgical cases and reconstructions. Third-year residents have a rotating procedural/cosmetics experience, which includes Mohs surgery as well.
