Welcome to the Division of Community Internal Medicine. I am proud to be part of this talented division of world-class clinicians committed to providing exceptional patient care in adult primary care medicine and to teaching and mentoring the next generation of physicians. Our division’s goal is to improve the health of the residents of Central Massachusetts through culturally sensitive clinical care, service, teaching, and research, focusing on the recognition and elimination of health care disparities. We aim to create patient-centered practices that focus on high-quality, evidence-based health care for our patients and communities with specific goals to facilitate comprehensive, coordinated, and continuous primary care. Our skilled clinician-educators, teachers, and educational leaders are also integral in the training of our medical students, physician trainees, and faculty.

We are passionate about addressing and improving our understanding and involvement in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Several of our faculty members participate in diversity workshops and hold leadership roles in the DRIVE committee at UMass Chan. They also serve as mentors for underrepresented medical students and continue to advocate for improved access to health care for our community.

We continue to encourage volunteerism in the community through free care clinics as well as participation in anchor mission voluntary activities sponsored by UMass Memorial Health.

Our division proudly participates in the Ambulatory Research Consortium (ARC), a Department of Medicine committee, which includes DoM leadership, clinicians, and research faculty. The ARC aims to develop and pilot interventions focused on improving health outcomes, health equity, and/or patient engagement in primary care. Several members of our division have abstracts and publications to their credit.
Multiple members of our division hold key leadership roles in both the Offices of Undergraduate Medical Education and Graduate Medical Education. Almost all physicians in our division have educational duties ranging from precepting medical students and residents, to mentoring medical students, residents, and junior faculty. Several senior faculty are involved in the development of new curriculum for learners in at UMass Chan, specifically within the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
