Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT Model)
The Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT Model) was developed by Drs. Robert J. Meyers and Jane Ellen Smith at the University of New Mexico.
Research studies have shown that CRAFT is an effective approach to increasing the chances that a loved one enters treatment. It has also been shown to be an effective approach for improving the wellbeing of family members/loved ones and helping them cope with the challenges of having a loved one with a substance use disorder.
This approach is helpful at any stage: before your loved one enters treatment, while they are in treatment, after treatment, and even if they choose not to enter treatment or seek help.
The following Fact Sheet is a brief overview of the CRAFT Model.
