PCBH and Lynn Community Health
CIPC is helping Lynn Community Health Center is supporting its mental health therapists so that they may enroll in the Primary Care Behavioral Health certificate course in cohorts that make sense for LCHC. The objective is to foster a shared understanding and approach to integrated primary care across their delivery sites by all team members. Lynn CHC physicians lead teams of health professionals who can address almost any ambulatory health need or chronic condition. They are joined by highly qualified mental health therapists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, other specialists to create a patient-centered medical home. This is an innovative model designed to respect each patient’s unique needs. Care is coordinated among providers, with special attention paid to medical and behavioral health clinicians, who practice together in the same location. The patient and, when appropriate, his or her family, is considered a central part of the care team and actively participates in decision making.
Lynn Community Health Center is a non-profit, multicultural, community health center located in Lynn, Massachusetts. Lynn CHC appropriately sees itself as a leader in developing new initiatives that result in high-impact, low-cost health care. The health center is recognized as a Level 3 Patient Center Medical Home by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), has received the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval and has been recognized as a 2020 Health Center Quality Leader and a 2020 National Quality Leader for Behavioral Health by HRSA.
Teaching Harm Reduction at Albizu University
Contract with Albizu University as part of their Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Grant Project entitled: Integrated Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Training Program in South Florida: A Capacity Building Project in Clinical Psychology (Project Director: Scott M. Hyman PhD. Albizu University, Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology).
Our faculty developed and provided a 4-hour webinar focused on providing substance use disorder treatment in integrated primary care settings as well as reviewing the critical role of harm reduction-informed care. Additionally, the contract included 3, 1-hr supervision/training sessions to support graduate students learning to care for patients with opioid use disorders.
Addressing the Opioid Crisis in Upstate New York--a multi-pronged approach
Beginning in 2017 the Center for Integrated Primary Care partnered with the Bassett Healthcare Network to expand their primary care-based treatment of patients with Opioid Use Disorder. As part of this work, CIPC faculty provided onsite and online training to Bassett teams on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with OUD in primary care. We have run multiple rounds of distance education based on the Project ECHO model. This work has been successful and was recognized with an award in 2018.
