Jennifer Berryman

Executive Vice Chancellor, Communications

Jennifer BerrymanJennifer Berryman is executive vice chancellor for communications and the chief communications officer at UMass Chan Medical School. Her team tells the stories of UMass Chan and its unique contributions to the academic health sciences by highlighting groundbreaking biomedical research, top-rated education and public service efforts that advance the health and well-being of the people of the commonwealth and the world.

The Office of Communications serves as in-house consultants for the Medical School community and oversees a multimedia strategy for all internal and external communications, including media relations; news and social media; executive communications; and brand management. Content can be found on UMass Chan News, the medical school’s news site, and on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook and YouTube. Berryman initiated the UMass Chan communicators network as well as the award-winning UMass Chan Media Fellowship.

Prior to joining the medical school in 2014, Berryman spent most of her professional career at WCVB-TV, where she helped to lead the news team that earned the national Edward R. Murrow Overall Excellence Award, one of journalism’s highest honors, in 2012 and 2014. As executive editor and executive producer for special projects, Berryman oversaw the station’s investigative and medical units, working alongside renowned medical editor Timothy Johnson, MD; served as the news department representative in labor negotiations; and occasionally contributed to Chronicle, WCVB’s evening news magazine program. Her work has earned numerous Emmy, Associated Press, Edward R. Murrow, National Headliner and Gracie awards.

Berryman is a graduate of Ithaca College and in 2009 she completed the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation’s Health Coverage Fellowship. She is a member of board of directors of The Genesis Foundation for Children and previously volunteered as a big sister through the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston.
