Deputy Executive Vice Chancellor, Management

Prior to assuming his current position in 2011, Healy worked for three years as an associate general counsel in the UMass Office of General Counsel; prior to that he was a co-founder and principal of the civil litigation law firm, Healy and Healy, P.C. From 2009 to 2015, Healy was a visiting lecturer and mock trial coach at the College of the Holy Cross. He serves as deputy executive vice chancellor for management at UMass Chan Medical School. In this role, Healy provides counsel and advice to the chancellor and senior leadership, academic departments, and administrative units on issues involving legal, contractual and employment matters, administrative policy, business process, and operational management. Healy oversees all legal matters involving UMass Chan under the guidance of the UMass Office of General Counsel, and he serves as the campus liaison to the Office of General Counsel. Healy directs the Office of Management, which supervises and manages employee, faculty and student disputes; real estate; risk management; conflict of interest; ADA accommodation services; international support services and foreign influence; and privacy and compliance matters.

Healy has provided public service for his hometown of Needham since 1993, serving as a select board member for seven years, Memorial Park trustee for six years, on various town boards and committees, and currently as a member of the finance committee (where he previously served for six years). From 2010 to 2017, Healy was a member of the advisory council of Needham Bank, and he currently serves that institution as a corporator.

Healy is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross (1981) and Suffolk University Law School (1985, with honors), and he is licensed to practice law in both Massachusetts and the U.S. District Court. While at Suffolk Law, Healy was a member of the Constitutional Law Moot Court Team that won the national championship at Chapel Hill, N.C., where he was recognized as second best oral advocate. In 2007, Healy was presented with the Needham High School Distinguished Career Award.
