Knowledge Translation (KT) Academy: Building Capacity for Promoting the Awareness and Use of Employment Research Findings

In today's increasingly diverse world, data communicators must ensure that the way they analyze and present their data upholds the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and avoids perpetuating stereotypes, biases, or other types of harm. Taking a DEI perspective means considering how the specific lived experiences and perspectives of the people and communities we are studying, as well as our readers, will perceive the way we communicate data and information. This session offered a set of starting points on how to apply an equity lens to the way we visualize data.

In-service staff training, regardless of staff discipline has long been a central tool to develop the ability of providers to translate research findings about new approaches to working with disability service users, into practice. Training staff on an ongoing basis to deliver new interventions, however, is a costly enterprise. As a result, the most popular trainings are brief seminars or workshops.

The National Rehabilitation Information Center (NARIC) has served as NIDILRR’s library and dissemination center since 1977, supporting the grantee community in getting their research to the stakeholders who need it most. In this webinar, you’ll meet key members of the NARIC team and learn how you can add their publishing, social media, database, and web channels to your KT toolkit.

The webinar series will help you apply the Knowledge to Action Cycle, developed by Dr. Ian Graham, to a project or initiative that you or your group have, for turning research findings into implementation activities.

This hour-long interactive webinar was one of a series of events in the Knowledge Implementation Track of the KT Academy at CeKTER and was designed for employment-focused NIDILRR grantees, and their related collaborators. The Knowledge to Action Cycle (KTA) breaks down the implementation process into 7 actionable phases starting with determining the knowledge-practice/policy gap through to sustaining the change.

This two-part participatory course is the first offering in the Knowledge Dissemination Track of the KT Academy and will help participants to utilize social media to disseminate information more effectively and enhance education and stakeholder engagement for NIDILRR grantees working to improve employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities.

This webinar is the first offering in the Knowledge Implementation Track of the KT Academy at the Center on Knowledge Translation for Employment Research (CeKTER) and will address the topic of Equity in Implementation for employment-focused NIDILRR grantees, and their related collaborators. The presentation explores the concept of, and strategies for, promoting equitable implementation science and is led by Dr. Ana A. Baumann, a leader the field of health disparities, dissemination, and implementation research.
