CIRTification Online Course
Human Research Protections Training
All persons that work on research projects must complete human research protections training. If you are a UMass Chan Medical School faculty or staff member or student, you are required to take specific courses offered by the CITI program.
The UMass Chan IRB will accept completion of the CIRTification program as an alternative to the CITI Program for community members who collaborate on UMass Chan research projects.
What is CIRTification Online?
- a web-based program

- focuses on the unique roles and responsibilities of community partners in health research projects.
Who should complete CIRTification Online?
- CIRTification Online is for community members who collaborate on UMass Chan research projects.
- This program is specifically and only for community members that do not have an eIRB account who will work on UMass Chan studies.
What are the details about CIRTification Online?
- takes about three hours to complete
- includes audio, text and interactive activities around research involvement.
- Community partners will receive a certificate of completion for this training.
- has received positive feedback from local users.
Researchers that intend to use the CIRTification program alternative for non-UMass Chan staff must:
- Include it in the Investigator’s Study Plan.
- File the HRP215 form to add community members without an eIRB account to a research study.
- Direct community members to the CIRTification program using the instructions below.
Instructions for learners:
- Go to this site: https://training.ccts.uic.edu/
- Click “Register” (top right hand corner). Select “I am not from UIC.”
- Complete the registration form. When asked to select a site, select UMass Chan Medical School
- Click “Register” to finish
- Visit the Course Catalog. Information about CIRTification will appear on the bottom right under “Community Training.”
- Click “Learn More” and “Enroll” to enroll in CIRTification and begin the course.
CIRTification was developed and is administered by the University of Illinois Chicago Center for Clinical and Translational Science. The program is available to UMass Chan through the UMCCTS Community Engagement and Collaboration Core (CECC) in collaboration with the IRB.
