The goal of CAPCaT is to develop and optimize novel point-of-care (POC) and home-based technologies to improve the detection, prevention, treatment or monitoring of heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) disorders.

CAPCaT will develop a program based on the NSF I-Corps curriculum that will be required for CAPCaT pilot awardees and offered broadly to the POCTRN network. We will also continue to offer the Biotech East course, IMPACT course, and related opportunities to our stakeholders. In parallel, we will work with transdisciplinary teams to develop needs assessments based on wide-ranging stakeholder input. Stakeholder showcase events will convene experts to discuss current needs for POC technologies and share best practices for product development and commercialization. We will draw on our extensive CAPCaT network, enhanced by our local Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) hub and Massachusetts Medical Device Development (M2D2) Center to develop formal clinician and patient needs assessments for POC technologies to HLBS disorders. The knowledge generated through these training and needs assessment activities will be broadly disseminated through the POCTRN and other national networks, such as professional societies, patient groups, and the CTSA consortium.
