Department Strengths
UMass Chan is a hub of biomedical research and innovation nestled in central Massachusetts. The environment here is supportive, collaborative and progressive. In particular, the BMB department is a collegial work environment where new ideas can thrive. BMB also provides various resources including five different research cores. Together, these qualities make the BMB department a truly special place to do scientific research.
UMass Chan is in close proximity to the biotech industry in Boston and has a strong relationship with industry. Many of our graduate students use their time here to plug into the local biotech industry and then transition into industry later in their careers. BMB even has a unique collaboration with several major companies in Boston in which biotech executives come to UMass Chan to network with and advise students interested in similar careers.
*NOTE: conducting your thesis research in the BMB department does not require you to be a part of the BMB graduate program or vice versa.
