Emergency Medicine Clinical and Translation Science Research Fellowship

Overview:

The Emergency Medicine Clinical and Translation Science Research Fellowship will provide an opportunity to emergency physicians to develop key clinical research skills essential to becoming future leaders in the delivery of emergency care.

The fellowship is a two year program during which a Master’s will be pursued, along with additional one-on-one mentoring and group supervision by the Fellowship Director and other research faculty. The specific nature of the Fellow’s experience will be built to match the Fellow’s research interests and career goals.  The fellowship will also incorporate: Clinical practice experience as a junior attending in the Emergency Department;  Observational learning by assisting research faculty in their projects;  Attendance in departmental and school-wide didactics, including didactics, workshops, seminars,  various research group meetings, and conferences sponsored by the UMass CTSA;  Completion of one independent research project (MSCI Thesis);  Assigned readings;  Presentation at one or more national scientific conferences;   Participation in other trainings and courses as determined by discussion with primary and secondary mentors; and   the Fellow will work 600 clinical hours per year, and they work in the role as an Attending Physician in our Emergency Department(s) and we do bill for their services.

The Master of Science Degree in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) Program emphasizes the development of strong clinical investigation skills based on a solid foundation in study design, conduct of observational studies and randomized trials, clinical epidemiology, and biostatistics. Students acquire excellent writing and oral presentation skills through formal classroom work as well as by participating in several oral presentations.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Satisfactorily completed and ACGME-accredited EM Residency Training Program
• Must be Board-eligible
• Must have passed all 3 steps of USMLE
• Must be eligible for a full Massachusetts license
