Co-chaired by Jorge Sanchez and Valerie Wedge, the advocacy subcommittee sought to influence policy on behalf of others. Advocacy promotes the rights of those whose voices are not always heard and have something to contribute that positively enhances the way we work and live in community together. The advocacy subcommittee worked on the following in the 2023-2024 year:
The clarified roles responsible for reporting and concluded on the following:
· Title IX violations will be reported to the Title IX Coordinator
· Appropriate Treatment of Learners will be handled via a collaboration from the Office of Student Life and Diversity & Inclusion Office
· Discrimination & Bias will be handled by the Diversity & Inclusion Office
UMass Chan Community Arts Exhibit Pilot Advancing Belonging Together
In celebration of UMass Chan’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, the committee solicited art from UMass Chan Community (faculty, learners and staff) that Promoted a welcoming community and environment. They screened and vetted proposed art by diverse community members and presented an exhibit in Lamar Soutter Library in September 2024.
