Overview

The Dermatology Residency Program curriculum is robust with multiple educational conferences and clinical experiences to train well-rounded dermatologists ready for academic or private practice or fellowship. The Department of Dermatology academic offices and Jeffrey D. Bernhard Library are located at the UMass Memorial Medical Center Hahnemann Campus in Worcester. Clinics are held at the Hahnemann Campus and about 10 minutes away in the Ambulatory Care Center at the University Campus. Residents occasionally rotate into weekly half-day general dermatology clinics at the UMass Memorial affiliated sites of UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital, UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Leominster Hospital and Westborough Dermatology. Residents see inpatient consultations at two hospitals: University and Memorial Campuses of UMass Memorial Medical Center. Each resident spends every morning for one month per academic year in the dermatopathology offices on the Biotech campus adjacent to the University Campus signing out side-by-side with our dermatopathologists. The University Campus is located on the UMass Chan Medical School campus.

Practicing primarily at two ambulatory sites allows our residents to maintain continuity of care for their patients (95 percent of clinics are continuity clinics), an important element of the program's success. There are rotations through specialty clinics like laser, CTCL, epidermolysis bullosa, genodermatoses, transplant, and vitiligo clinics. Our collegial group includes faculty members with diverse interests and wonderful teachers to create an ideal training environment.
