Conferences

Our residents have approximately 10 hours per week in structured conferences which is more than what is offered at the majority of dermatology residencies. There is a half day on Monday mornings for conferences and then some mornings and noon times for the remainder. All core conferences are led by our talented faculty and fellows. Residents have weekly conferences in medical dermatology, pediatric dermatology and surgical dermatology. They have three hours of dermatopathology that includes text review, slide review and unknowns. One highlight is our weekly journal club with active participation by faculty and residents in which we review JAAD, JAMA Dermatology, British Journal of Dermatology, basic science articles from various journals, miscellaneous articles and evidence-based topics. There is a weekly text review and frequent kodachrome sessions and morning reports.

While most conferences are maintained every year, residents are involved in designing the curriculum to meet the needs of the current residents. There are curriculum meetings about three times per academic year to adjust the curriculum where needed.  In addition, the PEC (Program Evaluation Committee) critically reviews evaluations every year to make adjustments in the curriculum.
