David Flanagan
Deputy Executive Vice Chancellor, Facilities Management
David Flanagan serves as deputy executive vice chancellor for facilities management at UMass Chan Medical School.
Prior to joining UMass Chan in December 2022, Flanagan spent 19 years at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston serving as director of engineering, infrastructure and research facilities planning. At Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Flanagan led the development of the Center for Life Sciences, an 800,000 sq. ft. research laboratory, and the medical center’s new 400,000 sq. ft. in-patient building.
Before Flanagan joined BIDMC, he worked at Parson Brinkerhoff, a global engineering and consulting firm, managing a range of utility, heavy civil and complex building projects associated with Boston’s Central Artery Tunnel project, and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he managed the development of the Brain and Cognitive Sciences neuroscience center.
Flanagan earned his bachelor's degree in civil engineering at UMass Lowell. He is the proud father of a daughter who serves as an officer in the United States Air Force who is currently pursuing her medical degree in Chicago.
