The UMass Center for Clinical and Translational Science offers a host of services, tools and resources across the University's 5-campus system to enhance collaboration, research and data management.
The mission of the ATC is to apply the knowledge flowing from the latest biomedical discoveries to develop new ways to treat disease and then drive those therapies into clinical trials.
Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD)
High quality translational research requires expertise in the design, analysis, and conduct of observational studies, randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental designs, and complex laboratory studies. A key element of the BERD component is the Department of Quantitative Health Sciences, which fosters collaboration among existing clinical and basic science entities.

As the health care consulting division of UMass Chan Medical School, ForHealth Consulting uses academic research to make evidence-based recommendations. With our help, government agencies, nonprofits, and managed care organizations are able to meet today's health care challenges - and are prepared for what's to come.
Community Statistics at UMass Chan
A community engaged research approach can enable researchers and community partners to conduct research to improve health. To help both researchers and community partners using this approach, we have collected a wealth of information to assist with understanding health status and issues in Massachusetts communities, learning more about community-engaged research, and developing proposals for future work.
Conquering Diseases is the name given to a research project that hopes to discover the keys to better health in our community. The Conquering Diseases Program is a partnership between community members, the patients being cared for by the health professionals of UMass Memorial and the research community.
The UMCCTS Informatics Core is comprised of the Clinical Research Informatics Core and the Bioinformatics Core, both of which work closely with the Research Computing Division of UMass Chan Medical School Information Services.
Investigational Drug Service
The investigational pharmacists in the Investigational Drug Service (IDS) play a key role in facilitating subject safety for clinical trials being conducted at UMass Chan Medical School (UMass Chan) and UMass Memorial Medical Center (UMMMC). The IDS provides the following services:
- Consultation with investigators pre-study and throughout conduct of trial, including assessment of appropriate charges for investigational services;
- Preparation of IDDF (drug data form);
- Aiding in procurement of investigational drugs;
- Receipt, storage, accountability, dispensing and return/destruction of all investigational drugs;
- Monitoring of all ongoing investigational drug activity by clinical researchers in the UMass Chan or on the campuses of UMMMC;
- Control and accountability of investigational drugs according to state and federal regulatory requirements, sponsor specifications and hospital pharmacy practice.
MassBiologics of UMass Chan's mission is to discover and develop products that will significantly improve public health. This includes products for smaller patient populations due to limited incidence of disease (orphan products), uncertain markets as new challenges to public health arise, or products for developing nations with limited resources and unique needs.
Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center (M2D2)
The Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center (M2D2) is a lifeline for the State's smaller medical device companies, offering inventors and executives easy, affordable, and coordinated access to world-class researchers and resources at the UMass Lowell and Worcester campuses.
The Meyers Primary Care Institute is committed to research across the lifespan, from childhood to advanced age. We conduct population-based research to inform policy and practice, promoting evidence-based care for the benefit of our community, and beyond.
The availability of robust, affordable core services accelerates the pace of research across the entire translational spectrum.
Small Molecule Screening Facility
The Small Molecule Screening Facility assists researchers in developing high-throughput (HT) screening assays, performs HT screens of chemical libraries to identify new small molecules that can be used to probe biological processes of interest.
Science Participation Research Center (SPRC)
The Science Participation Research Center (SPRC) seeks to engage special populations in clinical and translational research with strategies that reach out to investigators and community members using tailored, culturally responsive methods. Our mission is complementary to, but distinct from that of the UMCCTS Community Engagement and Research component, which seeks to develop scalable models of institutional infrastructure for community-responsive clinical and translational research.
