Researchers at UMass Cancer Center seek to understand how genitourinary cancers begin and can be treated. The Department of Urology, the only academic urology department in Central and Western Massachusetts, is committed to improving the understanding of urologic disease through research and discovery and developing treatment paradigms that maximize optimal outcomes while minimizing the invasiveness and cost of these therapies.
We are a Main Member institution of the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group, a cooperative membership-based scientific organization that designs and conducts cancer research involving adults who have or are at risk of developing cancer. As an ECOG-ACRIN member, we are able to provide patients with access to colorectal cancer clinical trials being conducted through the National Clinical Trials Network. Our surgical team participates in several national and international trials regarding surgical treatment of genitourinary cancer to be sure we are always able to provide the most advanced available options for our patients.
