Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and Dengue Virus (DENV)

Our Research

HBV is a devastating human pathogen with upwards of 250 million people chronically infected. HBV is a leading cause of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.  Due to the inability of current treatments to eliminate the HBV reservoir and the frequent occurrence of resistant strains, additional therapies are required.  We are currently investigating HBV replication to identify new means of treating and potentially curing this infection.

Flaviviruses: Infection with DENV produces a debilitating, painful and at times life threatening disease. DENV, and the closely related Zika virus, are flaviviruses which are  spread by mosquitos which are now rapidly expanding their range around the globe including the USA. Our group is interested in identifing new therapeutic targets to treat these expanding flaviviral infections
