  • Carl Adams

    Carl Adams , MD

    Hometown: Kensington, MD
    College: United States Military Academy
Medical school: UMass Chan Medical School
Anesthesiology interests: Pediatric and Regional Anesthesia
Outside interests: Running, hiking, skiing, military history
Why UMMS: The program here is big enough to get plenty of opportunities for training but small enough to get to know everyone in the department, the residents are confident in their skills and get the autonomy to practice them, and as the only anesthesia program in the area, we get to see all of the cool cases without having to share them with other programs. The location was perfect as well: here I’m close to family, cities, mountains, trails, and there’s always something new to do or see in the area.

    Why UMMS:
I chose UMass because during my Sub-internship I was so impressed with how capable each UMass resident was. I wanted to be a part of a program that supported residents and enabled them to get to that level of care.

    Hometown: Honolulu, Hawai'i
College: University of Hawai'i at Manoa
Medical school: Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine

Why UMMS: I chose UMass Chan because of its exceptional clinical reputation, supportive environment, and strong sense of community among staff and residents. Despite a virtual interview, I felt a deep connection to the program's emphasis on resident well-being and comprehensive training, making it feel like the perfect place to begin my career.

  • Philip Feinberg

Medical school: UMass Chan Medical School
Anesthesiology interests: Obstetric Anesthesia & Neuroanesthesia

Why UMMS: As a UMass Chan graduate, I’ve seen firsthand the strength of the training environment for both medical students and residents alike. The comprehensive and supportive training I’ve experienced here has been instrumental in my development as a Physician Scientist. Additionally, I deeply value the research culture at UMass. The opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research, facilitated by the close proximity of research and clinical facilities on the same campus, is something that greatly appeals to me. The unique integration enhances both educational and professional growth, making UMass Chan the ideal place for my continued development and training.

  • Gavin Loitsch

    Gavin Loitsch , DO

    Hometown: Gilbertsville, NY
    College: University at Albany
Medical school: Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
Anesthesiology interests: Regional or OB Anesthesia
Outside interests: Plants, board games, super smash bros, interior design, skiing, coffee, hiking, CrossFit
Why UMMS: Location and program culture were my biggest priorities when applying to residency. UMass is in a fun little city and a short drive from Boston, Providence, and several hiking/skiing/camping attractions. UMass offers the ideal Northeastern setting with 4 seasons and keeps me close to family - but it was the camaraderie amongst residents and attendings during my interview, paired with a balanced intern year, great case load, and energized leadership that sold me on UMass.

    College: Salve Regina University
    Medical school: Des Moines University
Anesthesiology interests: Critical Care, Acute Pain
    Outside interests: Houseplants, Golf, BB
Why UMMS: I chose UMMS because it fits the criteria that I had wished for in a residency program: An academic center, a level one trauma center, diverse clinical experiences across multiple campuses, and a medium class size.

  • Carl Ramponi

Why UMMS: Consistently reported world-class training with extensive variety and most significantly, the people! My interview was one-of-a-kind. Each interviewer was personable, welcoming, supportive, passionate about teaching, dedicated to program development, genuine, and kind. Every single person responded to my inquiry of “Are you happy?” with a definitive “Yes.” UMass left zero boxes unchecked - not one. The acuity, case diversity, patient population, training environment and culture, staff and resident satisfaction, and proximity to everything that I know and love ultimately set my decision in stone. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity.
